Dialogues on Water and Heritage in Ahmedabad
Dialogues on Water and Heritage in Ahmedabad was an event that took place on November 22, 2019 at the Centre for Heritage Management, Ahmedabad University Forum. Lead anchors were Dr. Sara Ahmed and Dr. Mansee Bal Bhargava. Reviving water heritage is at the heart of the Jal Jeevan Mission's efforts to ensure water security over the next five years (2019-2024). This critical dialogue, which coincided with World Heritage Week and marked the second anniversary of the Living Waters Museum at the Centre for Heritage Management, saw diverse water professionals and practitioners reflect on the importance of understanding our water heritage towards building just and sustainable water futures.
Presentations ranged from the degradation of urban lakes and growing pollution in the Sabaramati River, to the history of sewage farms, the architecture and design of water (stepwells) and transboundary challenges. Participants were keen to continue networking and learn from each other on small innovations to reduce our water and energy footprint. The Ahmedabad Water Forum has an active WhatsApp group open to anyone passionate about water and the environment.
