Jal Tarang
This event was organised at Shreyas Foundation, Project Otenga Cafe, Khoj Museum, Sarkhej Roza, IIT--Gandhinagar by Sukrit Sen, masters student at the Centre for Heritage Management, Ahmedabad University. Sukrit Sen has been passionate about music since the age of five and has studied both the tabla (drums) and classical music in Kolkata. When he joined Living Waters Museum as an intern in 2018, he wanted to use musical expression to talk about water. The Jal Tarang events which Sukrit has been actively performing across Ahmedabad, in schools, museums, academic institutes and cafes gave him an opportunity to demonstrate how water is a medium for sound.
Further, the materials which contain water like the humble pot, or a steel glass, are also carriers of sound, and that these sounds vary when the vessel is half full or empty. To the delight of young children, Sukrit has allowed them to create their own sounds either by splashing their hands in a large flat dish of water or using a pencil to tap on a full/empty glass, or drumming on a clay pot. These pictures and videos come from a variety of events where Sukrit has been regaling young and old alike with his powerful voice and his skilled hands to talk about water.
