National Water Museum Workshop
Workshop towards a National Water Museum at Central Water Commission with Ministry of Jal Shakti, Global Network of Water Museums. Sara Ahmed, founder of Living Waters Museum and Ashok Goel, Chief Engineer at CWC acted as the Lead Facilitator for the workshop. Intent of the Event This two days consultative workshop brought together diverse National and International Organizations, Academics, researchers, designers and government agencies passionate about water, to share their perspectives and views on what goes into building a national water museum for India. The collective brainstorming was used to develop a draft working paper towards a National Water Museum for India.
The first day of the workshop included short presentations from different water museums in India and Bangladesh and an overview on the global network of water museums (WAMUNET) followed by ideas for content development such as water heritage and the history of water management in India, contemporary water challenges and best practices in water management. A working session was held on the second day, with different groups focusing on themes such as research and content, museum design, outreach and communication, development, funding and partnerships. The idea of a national water museum has still to be taken up by the government.
